Waterbury May Be Among First to Join New Municipal Redevelopment Authority

According to the Hartford Business Journal, Waterbury may be among the first Connecticut communities to join the newly formed Municipal Redevelopment Authority, which has a $60 million budget to support multifamily developments in urban centers. If Waterbury’s Board of Aldermen endorses enrollment, the collaboration with MRDA could target areas like the central business district and the 70-acre Freight Street corridor for redevelopment. The city envisions transforming these zones into mixed-use spaces featuring apartments, retail, and commercial properties.
