According to the Hartford Business Journal, the Connecticut Port Authority is reevaluating the future of the State Pier in New London following the federal halt of the Revolution Wind project, which had been using the facility as its primary staging site. Ørsted had installed 47 of the planned 65 turbines before construction was ordered to stop, jeopardizing not only the current project but also the upcoming Sunrise Wind initiative, which was expected to begin immediately after. The pier underwent a $311 million renovation, triple the original estimate, specifically to support offshore wind development through 2027. With Ørsted’s lease potentially ending, the Authority is now exploring alternative uses, including short sea shipping and multi-purpose operations, to reduce reliance on a single tenant.
