According to the Hartford Business Journal, Connecticut’s revised historic-preservation review process appears to be operating more efficiently following 2024 reforms that established clearer timelines and procedures for projects requiring review by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). Since the changes took effect, SHPO has reviewed 3,570 projects, including 324 projects under the updated process, with initial determinations completed in an average of 14.8 days, well within the required 30-day review period. Only 10 projects initially received adverse-effect findings, and all were ultimately resolved through project revisions or mitigation measures, with no applicants seeking further review or formally disputing the outcomes.
