According to the Hartford Business Journal, New Haven is considering a 12-month moratorium on new data center construction and on the conversion of existing properties into data centers while it develops zoning regulations for the industry. The proposal, which is scheduled for review by the City Plan Commission, would temporarily prevent city departments from accepting or approving applications for such projects if ultimately adopted by the Board of Alders. City officials say the pause would provide time to evaluate the potential effects of data centers on land use, infrastructure, public safety, electricity consumption, water demand, and related systems.
